Services

Our designers will work directly with you. It is their goal to help guide you through the planning process, ultimately arriving at the log home you have envisioned. Our design team will offer helpful suggestions in order to design the home in the most cost efficient manner possible. The planning stage is a very critical stage of the building process. Your completed construction drawings will enable you to procure building permits, builder quotes, and material quotes. The construction drawings are needed to arrive at a final cost for your new log home.

What Your Highland Log Home Plans Will Include:

Exterior Elevations:

Drawings in 1/4" scale showing the exterior views of your log home and necessary notes regarding exterior finishes.

Detailed Floor Plans:

Drawings in 1/4" scale showing the layout of each floor in the log home. All dimensions and specifications for construction purposes are carefully laid out and noted.

Foundation Plans:

Drawings in 1/4" scale showing complete foundation layout, dimensions and specifications.

Cross Section(s) and General Details:

Cross Section(s) through log home where necessary to show construction details and techniques. These specifications show how the various parts of the log home are put together.

Electrical Layout:

Position of electrical outlets, switches, lights, fans and smoke detectors to help in estimating your log home costs before construction.

Site Plan & Legal Description (If needed):

Plans include a roof view site plan. Distances to property lines can be added to help with location of the log home on you property. Also includes an area on the plan to enter your legal description. All of this information is of great value when obtaining building permits and permission to build on your property.

Engineering Stamps:

Engineering stamps are best obtained locally in the area of your building site. Highland Log Builders can assist in finding a licensed engineer for your log home. The cost of engineering is not included in the plan price.

Construction Sets:

You will receive five sets of finished construction drawings. These will enable you to obtain building permits, builder and material quotes.

How To Get Started:

1) Make a rough sketch of your design or changes to a standard design.

2) Mail or fax us your sketches. Once we receive your information we will call to go over your ideas. We will need to ask you some questions about your design and the site, and we will also contact the local building department to make certain we are designing the home to meet all local code requirements. We will estimate the plans cost (typically $0.80/sq. ft., less for basement and garage space) and put our design firm in contact with you to get the process started. Normally the first design set will be completed and delivered within two to four weeks. Once the design of the home meets your approval, the final construction drawings will typically be completed in three to four weeks.
